Back in September of 2013, Microsoft
announced that it will acquire Finnish phone-maker Nokia in a deal that was
expected to end by 2014. And lo and behold, the marked date is about to come –
this Friday to be exact.
Come April 25th, Nokia will officially be a fully
owned Microsoft subsidiary. As part of the acquisition, Microsoft will be
managing the Nokia.com domain as well as the company’s social media networks
for a year. Moreover, Nokia’s former CEO Stephen Elop will lead Microsoft’s devices
group reporting directly to Satya
Nadella.
Also, as part as the acquisition, Nokias official name –
Nokia Oyj will be changed to Microsoft Mobile Oy. The Finnish company will now
use this name as its legal entity name and will be used for VAT IDs and
issuance of invoices. As for the rest of details about the acquisition, we might
have to wait until Friday for the companies’ official announcement.
