Google might be planning to give social bookmarking a shot
with its newly rumoured tool called “Stars”.
The code for the tool was originally called Google
Collections and will reportedly allow users to add web objects such as images,
videos and pages in a same way Pinterest do. Stars will supposedly have a very
intuitive user interface with users able to drag and drop starred objects into
groups and areas.
According to the report, the short term goal for the project
would initially involve the bookmarking and indexing of images, videos and web
pages; but given Google’s wide array of products and services, it’s not
difficult to consider that the company’s other products may utilize this tool
including maps, Google Drive files and emails.
The search giant’s annual developer conference is scheduled
to happen by the last week of June so Google Stars might be able to make an
appearance during that event.
