PCs on a stick aren’t exactly a new idea in the tech space.
There have been manufacturers who have made almost identical products and yet
there’s still room for new players in the game. Asus is the latest company to
join this small group of players with the Chromebit.
The stick, which is powered by Google’s Chrome OS packs a
Rockchip RK3288 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board
storage. The chip connects to a TV or an external monitor via an HDMI
connection while Bluetooth is used for connecting peripherals like a keyboard
and mouse.
Just like other Chrome-OS-powered devices, educational
institutions and businesses are likely to be the destination of the Chromebit,
though Asus promised that it will also be available as a retail release.
Asus is planning to launch the Chromebit by Q3 2015 at a
suggested retail price of around $100.
