Apple Spring Forward: Apple TV and Researchkit

The new MacBook and the Apple Watch are certainly the two superstars at Apple’s Spring Forward event, but there were also some minor yet note-worthy announcements during the event.

For starters, there’s the Apple TV price-drop. The company’s set-top box is now just $69 from $99. It was also announced during the event that HBO will launch its internet-based service alongside Apple, though through a limited time only (around 3 months).

Apple has also announced a new platform for users to join medical research using their Apple products. Called ResearchKit, users are given the opportunity to opt in to medical research about different conditions including asthma, Parkinson’s disease, breast cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

This should help researchers and scientists to collect large quantities of medical data from different people in a convenient manner. Apple did assure the public that it will not see any of the data to ensure complete privacy to all participants.
