Biometric scanners, specifically fingerprint scanning
technology have long been implemented by laptop manufacturers such as Lenovo
and HP
into their enterprise-level offerings. But this kind of tech isn’t really that
observable in consumer products until its implementation on the Apple iPhone
and iPad.
And so now, it looks like fingerprint readers may soon be a
standard feature on future laptop models courtesy of a US-based tech company by
the name of Synaptics. Its SecurePad is a mash up between a traditional track
pad and a fingerprint sensor, and uses the FIDO
Unified Authentication Framework.
According to the company, SecurePad will be able to read a
user’s fingerprint at any angle, much like that of Apple’s TouchID. They also
add that all data that is transmitted to and from the sensor and the host
processor are fully encrypted to ensure that your “personal” information won’t
be compromised.
SecurePad is now available, so we just need to wait for
manufacturers to adopt it.
